1. A Proverbs 31 Woman Has High Moral Standards
Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. Proverbs 31:10
This woman was a virtuous woman, meaning that she was a woman who had high moral standards. She was righteous, she was good, and she was pure. She held herself to the highest standards as she sought to honor the God who created her.
This is something that you must strive to be too. Make sure that your moral standards are high and your thoughts and your actions are pure.
The easiest way to make this happen is by closely monitoring the things you allow into your mind. When you meditate on and consume good things, it elevates your standards. Yet, when you meditate on and consume things that aren’t so good it lowers your moral standards.
Therefore you must be mindful of the things that you watch, the people you hang around, and the conversations that you have. You must make sure you spend quality time with God so that He can keep your moral compass high.
2. A Proverbs 31 Woman Is Trustworthy
The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain. Proverbs 31:11
Here we can see that this woman was trustworthy. Her husband’s heart, which is the most fragile part of a man, safely trusted in her. This man didn’t have to worry about her misusing his money. He didn’t have to worry about her being inappropriate with other men. Nor did he have to worry about sharing his innermost secrets with her because this woman, his wife, was trustworthy.
So it’s important that you take sometime and determine if you are trustworthy? This is one of the important characteristics God desires you to have.
3. A Proverbs 31 Woman Manages Money Well
The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain. Proverbs 31:11
She considers a field and buys it; From her profits she plants a vineyard. Proverbs 31:16
This woman was good with money. She was the type of woman who wouldn’t go out and blow the money for the mortgage on shopping sprees. She would never run up credit card bills and she used wisdom in how she administered the money that came into the household.
It was evident she had an investor mindset, because when she had a bit of extra money she used that money to purchase a vineyard that would benefit her family. Through the production of grapes, this vineyard could be a source of income and food for her family.
This woman was definitely smart when it came to money and you need to be that as well. Whether it requires that you read some books on money and finances, take a course on finance, or even look up some good youtube videos on finance. You must do whatever you need to do so that you, like the Proverbs 31 woman can learn to manage your money well.
4. A Proverbs 31 Woman Looks After Her Household
She seeks wool and flax, and willingly works with her hands. She is like the merchant ships, she brings her food from afar. She also rises while it is yet night, and provides food for her household, and a portion for her maidservants. Proverbs 31:13-15
The Proverbs 31 Woman looked after her household and she did it with an eager attitude. She made sure that her family had the wool blankets and coverings that they needed.
She also did what she needed to do to make sure her family was fed. Even if it meant she had to get up early in the morning to get it done. It didn’t matter how inconvenient the tasks may have been because her motivation came from the fact that her family was her top priority.
This is the same spirit you should possess. A spirit that eagerly does what is necessary to take care of your priorities, which if you have one, would include your family. Convenience or the lack thereof should never be a factor when it comes to handling your responsibilities and priorities. If it means that you, like the Proverbs 31 woman, have to get up early in the morning to provide meals for your family, or complete some other task, then that is what you do and you do it cheerfully.
5. A Proverbs 31 Woman Is Strong
She girds herself with strength, and strengthens her arms. Proverbs 31:17
Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come. Proverbs 31:25
The Proverbs 31 woman was a strong woman. Whether she was physically strong we don’t know, but we do know that she was definitely spiritually and mentally strong and that’s because she received her strength from God.
That meant she didn’t fall apart every time little trials came her way. She stood strong in the face of the enemy and didn’t let obstacles hinder her progress.
This is the type of strength you need. Ask God to strengthen you so that you can stand firm as a strong woman of God.
6. A Proverbs 31 Woman Recognizes The Value She Brings
She perceives that her merchandise is good, and her lamp does not go out by night. Proverbs 31:18
Here the Bible is letting us know that this woman knew what she brought to the table. She recognized that the blankets and garments that she made were good. Which allowed her to go out and sell them with confidence.
This is a characteristic that you should possess as well. As a woman it’s especially important that you know your value and worth. You must know that what you bring to the table is valuable and should be treated as such. This is the type of confidence that causes people to notice that what you have to offer is of great value.
7. A Proverbs 31 Woman Works Hard
She perceives that her merchandise is good, and her lamp does not go out by night. She stretches out her hands to the distaff, and her hand holds the spindle. Proverbs 31:18-19
Because this woman knew that the garments she was making were fabulous she continued to work hard on her craft. Often she was up late in the evening ensuring that her merchandise remained of the highest quality and was available for purchase.
And the lesson you’ve got to take away from this, is that you should always work hard and strive to do your best in all things. Because being the best generally is the result of effort and hard work. This is one of the most valuable characteristics you can possess as a modern day Proverbs 31 woman.
8. A Proverbs 31 Woman Has a Heart for Others
She extends her hand to the poor, yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy. Proverbs 31:20
The Proverbs 31 woman had a heart for others. She wasn’t selfish and didn’t look out only for herself. Instead she thought about others and their needs and reached out to help them. This woman had the heart of Christ which is a heart for others.
So if you are striving to be a Proverbs 31 woman you have got to put away all selfishness and make sure that you care for the needs of others.
9. A Proverbs 31 Woman Prepares for the Future
She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household is clothed with scarlet. Proverbs 31:21
The Proverbs 31 woman wasn’t afraid of the bitter winters that would come upon her family. No, she didn’t have the modern luxury of a heated home but she did have the foresight to prepare heavy garments that her family could wear to protect them from the frigid winter temperatures. There was no need for her to fear the snow because she had prepared in advance for the coming of the snow.
Being prepared for the future and staying ready is a characteristic that God desires you to have. Whether it’s saving money in an emergency fund, studying in advance for an upcoming exam, or purchasing your children’s winter jackets before the winter comes, being prepared for the future is one of the wisest things you can do.
10. A Proverbs 31 Woman Presents Herself Well
She makes tapestry for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and purple. Proverbs 31:22
The Proverbs 31 woman made sure that she presented herself well. She didn’t walk around town in raggedy old clothes. She made sure that her clothing and her appearance was presentable at all times.
This is a quality you should also possess. This doesn’t mean that you should be wearing expensive clothing. It simply means that you should make sure the clothing that you wear regardless of its cost is neat and presentable. It also means that you take the time to do your hair, take care of yourself, and make sure that you are looking your best. You’re God’s child and you should always reflect that.
11. A Proverbs 31 Woman Rightly Influences Her Man
Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land. Proverbs 31:23
You know the saying, “Behind every good man is a good woman.” There is no question that this woman’s husband’s notability in society was a reflection of her influence upon him. Her support for him, her belief in him, and her prayers for him, all had a positive impact upon him, empowering him to operate at his best.
We as women have the power to influence the men in our lives. Like the Proverbs 31 woman we can use that power for good or like Delilah with Samson we can use that power for bad. God created women to rightly influence men and this is a characteristic you should seek to possess.
12. A Proverbs 31 Woman Operates in Her Gifts and Talents
She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies sashes for the merchants. Proverbs 31:24
The Proverbs 31 woman was obviously gifted in the art of making garments. This was one of her talents and she chose to operate in it. She used this talent to provide for her family by supplying them with the proper clothing as well as making garments to sell and bring in income for the household.
God has given you talents that he wants you not only to operate in but also to expand upon. When you use your talents you bring Him glory so be sure to seek Him for guidance in how He wants you to operate in your gifts and talents.
13. A Proverbs 31 Woman Controls Her Tongue
She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness. Proverbs 31:26
Simply put the Proverbs 31 woman knew how to watch her mouth. She didn’t lose her temper and allow hurtful words to fly out of her mouth. Instead her words were governed by wisdom, and each word she uttered was clothed in kindness.
God wants you to do the same. He wants you to speak with words of wisdom. He wants you to use words that will uplift and encourage, words that will guide and support, words that will soften and soothe.
14. A Proverbs 31 Woman Properly Manages Her Time
She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Proverbs 31:27
This woman knew how to manage her time. She didn’t waste time doing nothing or being lazy. Instead she took advantage of the time that was given her making sure her home was properly running.
Time management is a skill that God needs you to develop. Every moment is of the greatest value. When time is wasted precious opportunities are missed. Whether it’s strengthening your relationship with family members, working to provide for your family, developing your character, spending more time with God, or any other activity that brings value to you or others, it’s important that you make time for it.
15. A Proverbs 31 Woman Has a Strong Relationship With God
Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: “Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all.” Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Proverbs 31:28-30
All of the wonderful things this woman did and accomplished are all the result of one thing, the fact that she feared the Lord. This is the summary of her existence, she feared the Lord. And it was this relationship that she had with God that empowered her to develop all of the characteristics listed above.
