Are You Busy or Productive?

Are you busy all of the time? No matter how hard you try there never seems to be one minute to spare.  From the time you wake up until the time you go to sleep you’re busy.  But let me ask you, are you busy being busy or are you busy being productive?  There is a big difference between the two and that difference could cost you your success.

Completing tasks and marking off checklist is great as long as the tasks you are completing are bringing you measurable steps closer to fulfilling your most important goals.  That’s what I call being productive.  However, if at the end of the day you discover that you’re not one step closer to achieving your most valuable goals there is a high chance that you my friend have simply spent your day being busy.

So here’s how you break the “busy” cycle. First you must identify what tasks are most important to you and would bring you the most satisfaction once completed.  Once these are identified laser focus on getting these tasks complete first.  Once they are completed you are now free to get busy with any other tasks you feel you need to complete for the day.  By following these simple steps you will find that you are no longer busy but productive.

Homework:  Take some time and evaluate your past week or even just your previous day.  Write down all of the things you did.  Now take some time to evaluate which tasks were of the greatest importance to you.  Based upon your findings would you consider yourself productive or busy?

  1. You inspire me to give serious thought of how I am spending my time and living my life. Thank so much for all you do to encourage us to look at how we are living our lives and are we living it to the fullest. I truly enjoy your words of inspiration and encouragement.

  2. Girl! Great blog! I just reorganized how I do things for this very reason. My husband blessed me with a great productivity flow chart and it is glorious. Helped me really put in perspective what was important for right now and what could wait. Life changing!!
